MF 290 Guide

Massey Ferguson 290 Fuel Filter Cross Reference

The MF 290 Perkins A4.248 uses the same two-stage fuel filtration setup as the MF 265 and MF 390.

Primary filter: OEM 1447082M1. Sediment bowl pre-filter; replace every 400 hours or when contamination is visible.

Secondary filter: OEM 3637380M1. Injection pump protection; replace every 200 hours.

Bleeding: After replacement, loosen the secondary filter head bleed screw and operate the hand primer until fuel runs clear of air. Retighten, then start the engine. Hard starting after a filter change almost always means trapped air — bleed again.

Fuel quality: The A4.248 injection pump is sensitive to contaminated fuel. Use a clean funnel and filtered fuel storage. Water in the injector pump causes expensive scoring of the precision-fit components.
