Service Procedures

R&R and adjustment procedures for the pto on the MF 65.

Source: MF 65 Workshop Service Manual (manual id=12). PTO drive shaft also rotates the hydraulic pump — pump runs continuously even when PTO is disengaged. Reverse rotation in reverse — many implements will be damaged if operated in reverse.

MF 65 PTO speed table (proportional engine speed mode, 18/50 ratio): Engine 1500 RPM = PTO shaft 540 RPM = belt pulley 1002 RPM = belt speed 2360 ft/min. Engine 2000 RPM = PTO shaft 720 RPM = belt pulley 1340 RPM = belt speed 3148 ft/min. Proportional ground speed mode: 1 PTO shaft revolution per 19 inches (approximately) of rear wheel travel.

Source: MF 65 Workshop Service Manual (manual id=12). Pack ball-and-roller bearing grease (~1/8 lb) in housing area between bearing cups during reassembly. Lubricate oil seals with brake fluid before installation.

MF 65 PTO bearing preload: tighten cover cap screws (33-38 ft-lbs torque) to draw bearing cup into position. After tightening, it should require 5 to 10 in-lbs torque (a slight drag) to turn the shaft in its bearings. To adjust preload: remove shims to increase torque, add shims to decrease torque.
