The MF 390 Perkins A4.248 shares the same two-stage fuel filtration system as the MF 265 and MF 290.
Primary filter: OEM 1447082M1. Pre-sediment filter protecting the lift pump and secondary filter. Change every 400 hours or when contamination appears in the bowl.
Secondary filter: OEM 3637380M1. Final-stage filter before the injection pump. Change every 200 hours without exception.
Bleeding procedure: After either filter is replaced, loosen the bleed screw on the secondary filter head 1-2 turns. Operate the hand primer pump (typically 20-30 strokes) until fuel flows steadily without bubbles. Retighten the bleed screw and start the engine. If the engine cranks but won't fire, bleed again at the injector pipe unions.
Shelf life: Fuel filters degrade in storage. If your tractor sits for extended periods, change the secondary filter at the start of each season regardless of hours — diesel oxidation products clog filter media faster than engine use.
