Massey Ferguson 65 Hydraulic Filter Cross Reference
The MF 65 runs the Ferguson-style internal hydraulic pump filter. It sits inside the pump body under the seat, and most owners never touch it until something in the three-point hitch starts acting slow.
Filter element: OEM 521451M1. This is the current MF number and it supersedes 185551M1, 185551M92, 185551M93, and 1871933M91. Physical size is 2.520" OD x 1.830" ID x 3.860" long, pleated paper over a steel mesh core. BEPCO 606251 / 606251B and Hifi SH59028 are the common European crosses.
Pump cover o-ring: OEM 831907M1. Always replace the o-ring when pulling the cover. It is cheap, and a tired o-ring will leak oil down the rear of the transmission housing.
Fitment note: The same filter element fits every shared-sump Ferguson tractor from the TO-35 era through the 3165: MF 20, 30, 31, 35, 40, 50, 65, 135, 150, 165, 175, 180, 202, 203, 204, 205, 302, 304, 2135, and 3165. Super 90 uses a different housing.
Oil capacity: 9 US gallons (34.1 L) for Power Shift transmission, 8 US gallons (30.3 L) for Dual Range. Fill spec is PermaTran III (M1135) or a 10W30 UTF; original factory fill was 80-90W mineral gear oil (M1103) and that is still acceptable. Gearlube 710 is the modern AGCO-branded fluid.
Service interval: Drain and refill the transmission/hydraulic sump every 750 hours or at least every 2 years. Replace the filter and o-ring at every oil change, and inspect the pickup screen while you are in there.
Install tip: Orient the element with the closed steel end down. If you run it the wrong way, the pump pulls air instead of oil.
