MF 255 Guide

Massey Ferguson 255 Air Filter Cross Reference

The MF 255 uses the same dry-type two-stage air cleaner as the wider Perkins 4-cylinder MF range. The outer and inner elements are identical to those on the MF 185 and MF 175/178/188.

Outer element: OEM 1447082M91. Replace every 500 hours or when the restriction indicator signals. Inspect every 100 hours in dusty or high-output conditions.

Inner safety element: OEM 1860841M1. Replace every third outer element service. This element cannot be cleaned — replace it.

Turbocharged engines and air filtration: The AD4.212 turbo is particularly sensitive to air filter condition. A blocked outer element reduces boost pressure, increases exhaust temperatures, and accelerates turbocharger wear. Check the restriction indicator at every refuelling stop during heavy work.

Cleaning the outer element: Tap firmly on a flat surface — do not use compressed air from the outside in. Hold the element against a light source after cleaning; any visible light through the paper media means discard. Reinstall only if the paper and end caps are undamaged.
