Massey Ferguson 50 Hydraulic Filter Cross Reference
The MF 50 uses the same internal hydraulic pump filter element that runs in every Ferguson-style pump from the TO-35 through the MF 3165. If you pull the pump cover and find a pleated element inside a steel can, this is the filter.
Filter element: OEM 521451M1 is the current part number. It supersedes older numbers 185551M1, 185551M92, 185551M93, and 1871933M91. All of these are the same physical element — a 2.520" OD x 1.830" ID x 3.860" long pleated paper cartridge. BEPCO lists it as 606251 / 606251B. Hifi lists it as SH59028.
Pump cover o-ring: OEM 831907M1. Always replace the o-ring when you change the filter. A squashed or nicked o-ring will weep hydraulic oil down the back of the transmission and you will blame the filter for a leak it did not cause.
Fitment note: This same element fits MF 20, 30, 31, 35, 40, 50, 65, 135, 150, 165, 175, 180, 202, 203, 204, 205, 302, 304, 2135, and 3165. If you have a "common sump" Ferguson hydraulic system, this is your filter.
Oil and interval: The MF 50 shares transmission, differential, and hydraulic oil in one sump. Current spec is PermaTran III (M1135, 10W30 UTF). Older M1103 mineral gear oil is still acceptable. Change the filter and oil for the first time at 50 hours, then every 500 hours or once per season, whichever comes first.
Install tip: Drop the filter in with the closed metal end down. The open end faces the pump cover. Running it upside down starves the pump and will burn it out in hours.
